Server lagg

Hi, I have Intel Centrino Dou proccesorr 1,86Ghz,3GB Ram,Internet connection 40/25mb's.My problem is I installed linux ubuntu Desktop edition 10.10 and for better performance.Before I had windows xp and there was about 100online and I had no lagg.But now when i run the server and my friend tests it he gets lagged, laggs are short (when i had windows xp he had no lagg).I don't know what should I do.I tried to configure mysql.Increase GameServer performence but nothing works he has still laggs.And only 1 player is online.

Ubuntu is not a dedicated server distribution like centos.. or Slackware. Maybe you need to turn off a lot of programs running in background, or better, try to unistall them.

when i install my server i do something like this

1- install basic centos 5.5
2- install apache-php-mysq (yum install or yum install group)
3- install java from repository (yum install java)

and minimal config, like ftp and nx server... some users, some config and all working fine.

Ok I have fixed it now.The problem was my modem.It had reseted itself , and my configs for the modem were deleted...
