The heat decreases the performance, and the cooler counters it. Stock cooler does it good enough, you just need good case ventilation and thermal paste.

Oo, ill explain you in an easy and logic way so you can understand it:

Better coolers -> less heat -> better cpu performance
isnt the direct consequence, but is in the way to increase performance

You can be sure that stock coolers are not the best the machine can get, are exactly the coolers that it needs, in the limit + a little margin of heat limit.

When you guys run the server on your systems, do you assign how many cores are dedicated to the server? o.O?

I just saw a tutorial that explains that you can assign cores to certain programmes (for example chrome, firefox etc.).

We understand your argument, Jur, that a better cooling system cannot and will not increase performance above the max performance of the processor. All Biggboss is saying is, the effective or actual performance of the processor will be increased.

Probe said his text like he'd buy a cooler for 100$ and weaker parts, so I tried to counter him, but obviously BiggBoss misunderstood me.
I know very well that good cooler cools better, but the stock cooler is also good. Some people tend to think like overclockers.

That should be handled by the VM, but I am not sure if it actually is.

Like ME! but I rarely have the money for good coolers to overclock. A friend of mine did get his core 2 quad (back when they were brand new) OC'ed to 4.3Ghz with this on the proc: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6835109140

Use mineral oil cooling. It's the cheapest and most elegant cooling system in the world.
The most efficient is the carbon nanotube cooler. I don't know if it is available anywhere though.

Meh, I have OCZ Vindicator on my E8400 and i'm cool. Every part in my box has 12cm coolers.

P.S. Nobody overclocks servers.

You can achieve good ventilation with almost any standard case by adding fans, but (and especially with amd, by my experience) in most cases stock cooler will not be enough for the performance you want to get from your cpu.
I know very well what I'm talking about and I understand your point, and I didn't say anything about overlocking it didn't even come to mind.

Agreed, a 130$ box is too much for a server PC, unless you really like to have a shiny good looking BOX on your desk. Save up a few euros on the box and buy a second pair of DDR3 memory, 8GB (4GB pack x2) would greatly increase your server performace.

Altrought the stock heatsinks are good enought for anyone using the CPU at stock speeds, there is no need to buy another one, unless you really want to overclock your CPU a bit (and that motherboard is perfect for that!) in order to squeeze some GHz out of that AMD and increase the overall performance, but that is NOT suggested unless you know how to do this.

Recomendation: Save on BOX, buy another DDR3 pair. Stock heatsink is good enought for stock CPU speeds (unless you notice your CPU going really hot, over 60~70C i would say)

which one should i buy in your opinion? the price is same, I just do not know if I need something better than a 550W power supply..
and "Corsair CSSD-V32GB2-BRKT 32 GB SATA 2" will this be enough even if u use server logs on? is that ssd better than raid0 hdds? any idea

Corsair site says that VX series PSU's are for mainstream users; stability ftw. TX, however, goes for performance.
Since it's a server, and it doesn't really need that much power, it should be enough with the VX550.
