to prevent them from being seen, the server must not send the hidden gm's location, that would be the only possible fix i belive

If I know right in the Past DS rework invisible mode, so no packet sent about the invis GM.
But if you think that players still see you than use instance number -1  .

is being invisible so important btw =P?

im not sure if discussing this server-sided has any future, the only fix this way would be not broadcast gm info to any1 (as bigboss said) otherwise, there is no fix for that at all =P

Okay, but what about the exploit which allows players to see what inventory items another player has?

well, if packets are encrypted I don't thing they'd be able to see anything :)
and before you say, that the packets are encrypted, I mean something different.. but that's "illegal" - client modifications etc etc..

Packets are encrypted indeed, but the key could be obtained when you enter the gameserver, and the keypacket is not encrypted, so if one program knows the key, can decrypt received packets and encrypt sendable packets. There is no way to bypass that. This is how packets should work. You can protect your server by verifying incoming packets, and not sending outgoing packets unnecessarily.

paranoia mode on...

in case - ANY visible info can be seen via client - can be show up in numbers via some mods(illegal) of client, some packet sniffer. So if you have no any security leak(sex with gm to told that or give gm rights :D ) you can say to player what he/she wear...

paranoia mode off...

btw. first time when presented l2net, i use it for such bot obline for gms, you can go to server concole and write from bot(was nice), and if u gm and invis and tp to that bot - it logging off immediately . so i think it quite old bug.
