Knowledge skills

Hello ppl. I am 28 years old, chemical engineer and i have some spare time now, after work, to deal with something i realy like, as a hobby. I want to ask 2 things.
1) What knowledge i must get to be able to correct lineage 2 server files,like the some ppl i see on your forum. I already started JAVA lessons.
2) IF, someday, and i say If, i manage to learn and be able to correct things, quests bugs etc is there a way to send back to you the corrections i made to check and then add them to the project?
P.S. I have been playing lineage 2 for almost 12 years (5-6 off and rest prv servers), i know much about the game but as a player. Now I want you to show me the way to become something more than a player.
