Dam bots/spammers
Make a new member group so all new registered members are auto added to it and let them see no sections on the forums this way they can't post until they confirm there email and there first post is modded that way it will get all these bots/spammers

Re: Dam bots/spammers
it's called the Newly Registered Members group, it's built in and afair enabled by default(?), really useful.
But the hardest part is fixing all permissions for all groups, takes alot of time to get it perfect if you don't do it daily.

If you have problems, FIRST TRY SOLVING THEM YOURSELF, and if you get errors, TRY TO ANALYZE THEM, and ONLY if you can't help it, THEN ask here.

Re: Dam bots/spammers
Weirdest thing is that everyone has to confirm their email before posting on the forums, looks like they are manually registered or something like that.

Re: Dam bots/spammers
if you make first post to be modded only mods will see it if they make posts like the others u never allow there post to be showen this way only mobs and admins will see there posts. Now as there first post is modded and all others after that as no mod or admin will allow this first post in the first place then no members will ever see any of there posts again. If you have some time would not take long to set up permissions so they can only see one forums call it what ever you will and only they will see it as they have just registerd and new real members will also see this section but not there posts as it is modded and the real new members you allow there first post this way it keeps away people like that if they find they cant post they will go away after a while. If i have the right i would set it up for you but i am sure you will be able to do it. there is so many different way you could set it up this is only one way

Re: Dam bots/spammers
well afaik it's not hard to make newly registered members to be pre-moderated...
@TPB -if you have the standart phpbb email message then imo bots can pass that stage too, the link should be always in the same place. Especially if they can access their email through scripts or such (automated process).

Yup, email confirmation is not enough. It is quite difficult to keep spammers and bots away. I find it funny, though. Google (who owns reCAPTCHA) is fighting for both the spammers and the people trying to keep them out. That is what happens when, for the sake of research and better data mining (regarding image recognition), they improve their own, and public domain image recognition software AND also use image processing/manipulation to generate images that are not readable by their own software.jurchiks wrote:well afaik it's not hard to make newly registered members to be pre-moderated...

They seem to do this a lot. It's like giving weapons to Country A so that they may wage war against Country B, but they are also giving better defenses to Country B, so that they may resist Country A's offensive movements.
