Local Area Network Client to Server problems

Post by MetalCanine »

Hi, I just painstakingly finished setting up my L2j server on my hand-me-down Dell server! Hooray!
But I have a small problem with it still.
Anyone outside of my network, like my friends and my desktop here at work can connect to the server and play just fine, but whenever I boot up a client inside my home network on a separate computer from the server, I can't login to the server with neither the server's LAN or WAN IP's.

I'm running:
Version: 3763
Builddate: 20100107_0500

DP version: 6842
Dp Builddate: 20100107_0503

Here are all of my configs for networking:

server.properties:

# ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
# Networking
# ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
# This is transmitted to the clients connecting from an external network, so it has to be a public IP or resolvable hostname
# Common settings...
# 127.0.0.1 - If you are playing alone on a test server
# 192.168.x.x - This is if you are on a 192.168.x.x type network (behind a standard consumer router) and want other computers from JUST the internal network to be able to connect
# x.x.x.x - WAN IP obtained from http://www.whatismyip.com/. This is if you want people outside your internal network to be able to connect to your server.
# If this IP is resolvable by the Login Server, just leave *.
# ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
# Default: *
ExternalHostname = (MY WAN IP)

# ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
# This is transmitted to the client from the same network, so it has to be a local IP or resolvable hostname.
# This can be the internal IP such as 127.0.0.1 or the computer's IP such as 192.168.x.x.
# If this IP is resolvable by the Login Server, just leave *.
# ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
# Default: *
InternalHostname = (MY LAN IP)

# Where's the Login server this gameserver should connect to
# Default: 127.0.0.1
LoginHost = 127.0.0.1

# TCP port the login server listen to for gameserver connection requests
# Default: 9014
LoginPort = 9014

# Default: *
GameserverHostname = *

# Default: 7777
GameserverPort = 7777

Login.properties

# ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
# If you are behind a router which using its own local IP for Port Forwarding then set this to the routers
# local IP if you want people outside your internal network to be able to connect to your server.
# ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
# RouterHostname =

# Bind ip of the LoginServer, use * to bind on all available IPs
# Default: *

LoginPort = 9014

# The delay in minutes after which the login updates the gameservers IP's (usefull when their ip is dynamic)
# Default: 15
IpUpdateTime = 15

And Thats almost all the info I have, All the ports needed are open in both router and firewall. Running Windows server 2003 lol, if that helps. Thanks to anyone willing to help me!

try to use wan ip on the internal configs instead of lan ip and in hosts file use also your wan ip.
DO NOT EVEN TRY TO MESS WITH ME!

Tried the WAN ip in the internal slot, but same error, I found a config for a router with it's own ip that I had overlooked, so I tried turning that on and same problem. Thanks though.

Found the problem! Haha, typos will be the death of me.
Try going back through the host files of your computers, that's where I found the problem in my setup at least.
So the configuration up top is in fact how it should be set up.

It is really embarrasing because with the same settings the freya version of the server works fine (both on lan and internet). Please check the previous post and see if there is anything wrong with the settings, is it a bug of this server' s version that it cannot run simultaneously for LAN and internet?
