the version from Dev-Svn was released directly in forum, then it was completed with the help of Vllight and others, and now is finished, so no idea what are you complaining about xD
Yeah, you are right, but...
How many years were needed to be released on public?

Lets stop with this discussion about Dev Team Vs Community, since it won't help us or improve anything...

I still think that the idea about 3 versions can be useful and can improve the development quality and speed up the process...

there is not ETA on that when we talk about an "EMULATOR".

you can take an example of M.A.M.E where some games from 80's are still not emulated and others partially emulated and we are in 2012 now.

yes, but trouble is... who will check, test and manage all of them ?

@K4N4BS I don't think active developers wait for anyone to test something (about the "dead lock" reference), there are testers in forums I'll give you that, but not enoguh in order to have a fast development, and there are committed developers, but again not enoguh, anyway, I don't blame anyone that doesn't want to test something, but of course if you don't help usually won't get help, I don't request others what I'm not willing to do myself, I hope others do the same.

Is common to see people writing to developers about the future of L2J, ask yourself what you can do to help the project you like and use, when you have the answer don't stop there, start doing it and then if it doesn't work ask others about what they can do to help.

Not true, we have changed lots of stuff internally and publicly, please stop that attitude of attacking the developers, and start thinking about what we have done, and if you don't know what changed, then ask!

What is changed? L2J "property" or "decisions" don't still only in few of this red hands? Are actually active developers able to make self decisions (about any l2j aspect) without need of eat some ass?

PS: I sorry if you feel attacked, it wasn't my intention.

like in any project, Administrators manage critical things of the project only, rest is managed by leaders, moderatos, etc.

yes, we can make self desicion as always, except things related with L2J's Hosting or Administrative things.

We got beta branch and Initiates to work in that branch, we can pick new team members and promote others, most aspects about development are in the developers hands, now the administrative part of L2J depends of the Inner Circle, they have been there when we (devs) needed them and rarely block us when we want to implement a change, mostly guide us, so I don't think it is like in old times, you have to admit that the dev team (even when is small) takes time to help users and check stuff, that was done before too, just that at some point it reached a really low priority and we slowly try to revert that.

Zoey76 wrote:@Evilus in another topic (viewtopic.php?f=4&t=25111) I gave my opinion on a similar matter, but of course you couldn't troll that one or you just missed it :D

@marcose I don't think adding the $ factor will help, it will turn it into a bussiness and will go against the main idea of the project learning and sharing.

@BiggBoss you jelly cause ain't any W1ggWozz :P

@Evilus (again) you are the selfish one that work for a close community, even one line of code shared by any of us helps more the community than any of your latest posts.

@LasTravel maybe you are right, I tried to reach you when I got in to the team and you said you were done working for free, you can ask any of the Adv. Users that works with us, that we try to get their work committed.
O.o what's with the trolling I never said any of you are selfish ? or did I? Not that I remember at least. Dunno about the other topics I don't really read all topics on l2j :P

Edit*

Just read the 4 pages my reply was only for first page :P, anyway..

Imo the branch unstable they are doing is pretty good to be honest development from what I see is a lot faster than it has/was the past 2 years. Also a lot more things do get committed which for sure would not get committed on trunk back in the day like java reworks for example. Kudos to l2j team for that.

Also those that complain about l2j team have obviously not been here for long. At least the remaining members do make GOOD code unlike before. Zoey and Unafraid make a lot more optimized code than the old l2j devs , that's just my opinion and you should give them credits for that.

Damn, 2 pages added to this topic since the last time I posted.
Not bad.
Zoey wrote:you have to admit that the dev team (even when is small) takes time to help users and check stuff
I have barely seen any help with the contributions from the dev team. Not talking about "can't connect to server HALP!!1one" type topics ofc, those are usually easy to answer and thus get more responses.

For example, viewtopic.php?f=69&t=23668 topic has been around for ~7 months and only UnAfraid has helped on its development (only one post with some code though, the rest was just text). MELERIX only posted sniffed spawns, which suits his position in the team, but nevertheless, there could (and, possibly, should) have been a lot more advice from the team.
viewtopic.php?f=69&t=23615 - also 7+ months old topic which has been almost completely community-driven (not counting that VIlight is an Advanced User). Unfortunately it has kind of died now.
viewtopic.php?f=69&t=22112 - this topic, however, is a pretty good example of collaboration between team members and community. Almost all the stuff listed in 1st post is green, i.e. done/implemented.
viewtopic.php?f=69&t=24853 - and this topic (no harmless code or any actual changes, just moving it around a bit) got no real friction. The code doesn't even need any tests, all you need to check for is if the code was copied properly.

So where is that help you talk about? There's a ton more examples that prove my point.
If you have problems, FIRST TRY SOLVING THEM YOURSELF, and if you get errors, TRY TO ANALYZE THEM, and ONLY if you can't help it, THEN ask here.
Otherwise you will never learn anything if all you do is copy-paste!
Discussion breeds innovation.
