i thought it could help you guys so i post it...
i am not braking any rules because this was in public for anyone wanted to download and fix his npc tables for his server....
How can I put this nicely?
Don't take all of this personally, many have done this and we need it to stop.
We appreciate the help, but ....
Anything posted on the internet has a copyright. Just because you found this in the "public" does not mean that you or I can use this. Someone owns this work and there is nothing saying who wrote it or permission to use it. Lack of that info does not mean free.
The only thing you have shown me is that it is on rapidshare.de, which is well know for hosting illegal files. Is it really public domain or GPL? I have no clue.
Here is the problem, the author has this work posted somewhere on the internet, you find it, give it to us, we use it. Author comes along and proves that it is his work and that we did need permission to use that work. He can now demand we remove it or go to court. Are you going to step forward and assume the legal responsibility if we do have to go to court over work that you presented as your own?
We really need to stop the posting of other peoples work.
I guess I better post a legal disclaimer about postings, contributions .... ; since people do not understand what they can and can't do.

Correct, we don't charge money.jimaniac wrote: I understand all these but i thought this is a free project...
We only restrict those who have broken the rules.jimaniac wrote: anyone can help is free to participate
How are we supposed to know this? There was no author or license info.jimaniac wrote:and above all this file was found on a free L2j project forum...
(Just so you know, there is only one L2J project,(maybe time to look into trademark law

I did find where that file came from and it is covered under a GPL copyright.jimaniac wrote: someone give that file to all the people who want to fix their npc sql problems.....for free without any copyright....
free to trade within certain rulesjimaniac wrote: besides all these files are free to trade....
And by submitting that file we were lead to believe it was your creation. So, in essence you did steal the work.
Sure, thats fine, but are you including something to say who the author was? If not, your are stealing someones work.jimaniac wrote: maybe i don't explain well because i am not good in enflish but it is something like someone here post an sql file ,i get it, correct something to fit to me and i repost it as a file that making something else....
Your allowed to do that, removing the authors name or claiming it is your work is not.jimaniac wrote: for example i took a GM-shop sql file, delete some lines and keep only the lines that changes the name and title of npc's and now i use it as main guide to change whatever name i want....
definition of open source - there are many - http://www.opensource.org/docs/definition.phpjimaniac wrote: we are all here to help each other or else what is the meaning of open source??????
Don't apoligize, you have brought up things that we have had to discuss for a while now. It is just something that has always been pushed to the end of the list.jimaniac wrote: I want to apologise if my post had create any problem at all....i will first ask before post any kind of file again....if i can help at any way feel free to ask.....
I hear from enough people about theft of work. People taking code, removing credits/authorship, claiming work as their own, other projects using code found here....
Well, there is only 2 choices. You go after them, and stop crying to us about your problem, or you give us a license to your work and we can go after them.
I threw up a license in the rules section that makes it automatic by anyone who uses of the site. If they don't agree, then they don't use the site. Only thing is, it can only be used from this day forward.
Now here is the kicker, Our website and the information contained are not covered under our GPL. The GPL covers our source code -> http:l2jdp.com/svn
Same with the server, but that has not been done yet.
Drooper, it makes it hard for us to do anything because we first have to prove the info is not GPL compliant. We need to see the files that are in violation and we need to know their exact location. Right now, we have no clue where they are because of the pay for membership Bullshit.
Read the google DMCA and you will see the exact info we need. Or look here.
If you or anyone else can supply that, great. (But do this privately with me by PM)
You have it backwards, selling it is not bad, they are allowed. Renaming the work, removing authorship, closing source code on open code is not allowed.
Yes we deleted it. We don't want their stuff, nor any work from any other project submitted.
Yes we can use code, as long as we use acknowledge the author and have open access to the source.
