L2J Server x64 ?

Post by Naminator_X_ »

Now I'm not much into java coder still the syntax is fairly new to me because i'm used to write in other languages i also don't know the details about java (those mini things that makes it all happen) but i'm learning..Reading your tutorials (which are pretty well written) etc..but i do have a problem.

Now I'm building a server machine in which...for now...i want to test my skills and then if i can handle a server management i will start a server...hopefully. Too much offtopic..going to the question

The biggest problem is the CPU...now i like Xeon...a lot but from what i read on google... x64 Opteron handles way better 32 bit application without slowing it down (AMD64 ftw ?) so i'm in a crossroad here (since those CPUs are not cheap i have only 1 shot at that). SO ! Is there a 64-bit l2j server pack or how i can "compile" one given i use 64-bit Ubuntu 10.04 desktop and i'm planning to use the x64 ubuntu 10.04 on my server. Should i go with the opteron OR i can buy Xeon and compile l2j as 64-bit software ?

P.S: Great work on the source guys. Tbh i have reviewed other forks of l2j but they did not had so many comments on :) - i <3 commented sources helps me understand things

what JIV meant is - l2j works on both 64- and 32-bits...
Because it's not the l2jserver that depends on the bits, but the java virtual machine. The code will be the same.
If you have problems, FIRST TRY SOLVING THEM YOURSELF, and if you get errors, TRY TO ANALYZE THEM, and ONLY if you can't help it, THEN ask here.
Otherwise you will never learn anything if all you do is copy-paste!
Discussion breeds innovation.

jurchiks thanks for the answer

@JIV as i stated above I'm new in java and i think it should be forgiven my stupid questions asking. Plus a thread with this title is more likely to be found :)

Though now it figures why the 2 java machines in the software repository :)

Go go Sun JRE x64 :) :)

I prefer to use 32-bit JRE and JDK, because I had some problems using Eclipse 64-bit and JDK 64-bit lately. Not that big problems, just some errors in Eclipse config. Though there are no more errors with JDK and Eclipse x86 (32-bit). :)
