what is the function of the subclass?

Well, subclasses are totally independent from your mainclass. Its skills only exist on your character when you switch to it. You main class's skills can only be seen and used when you switch back to your main.
Primarily, the advantages of subclassing are:
1) You can be a class from any race but still have the looks of your favorite race. You may become a scavanger without taking a dwarf, etc/
2) You can really surprise your opponents in PvP, when they see an elf suddenly using orc skills on them...
3) Although you must do a TOUGH quest to gain a subclass, your subclass starts from lv 40 and at its 2nd occupation, so you don't have to repeat those quests as you would if you had started a brand new char.
4) Once you have a subclass, you can level it up to 75. When you do that, you qualify for taking a quest to become a Noblesse.

#4 is probably the most important. There exist several things that are unique to Noblesse...also, only Noblesse may compete in the Olympiad and thus become Heroes who have access to the Hero S grade items

Good thanks..... but in others server the sub clases combine rases.... ej: darkavenger skills + dagger skills O_O is ridiculous
