It did not slam, but mouldered before. However there was an explosion. Some people experienced the sound of a big explosion that shook the windows of houses around.
I don't either believe in the world end in 2012. World-end should be far far away.

Basically you learned at school that the end of the world is in 5000m years.... hmm k, nice I'm happy I didn't bother much there...
I think more about our sun, this is a real thing, we can see a lot of super novas in the space, they are sun exploding (dying suns) and the same will happen with our sun, but in various billions of years more.
currently our sun is still alive and with their normal solar cicles, like in other galaxies
